Initial graphite grey color becomes intense dark purple indelible mark.
PencilThings Select Indelible Ink Pencil - indelible graphite/aniline deep purple dye lead. Successor to discontinued Sanford NOBLOT Ink Pencil 705. PencilThings Select Indelible Ink Pencil lead writes as if it were ordinary smooth dark grey graphite lead, but it is indelible. If you write very lightly and erase very carefully with a vinyl eraser in a dry environment, the markings will erase. The indelibility is due to the dyeing of the surface written upon, which is "fixed" by writing firmly, by the rubbing action of mechanical erasure, and further intensified by dampening or exposure to humid environments (your "hot, foggy" breath close to the markings will do). Writing on a damp surface immediately fixes the dye. This lead breaks more easily during sharpening than the Sanford Noblot pencil did. The extra aniline dye component weakens the lead slightly. We suggest sharpening it to a short point, rather than a long one. (The larger 11mm hole in a two-hole hand-held sharpener gives a nice tip. The KUM 105.30.21 Automatic 2-Step Long Point Sharpener is uniquely effective, too.) The Select Indelible pencil writes more darkly and with a slightly broader line than the Noblot did. The dye is purple, as compared with the turquoise of the NoBlot. This lead is not identical to the Sanford Noblot 705 pencil. We encourage you to obtain one from the PencilThings online Web store before purchasing a substantial quantity.
