TreeSmart colored mini pencils are from rolled-up newspapers. The barrels are painted to match the colored lead. The black colored pencil remains unpainted so that the newsprint shows.

Whole newspaper sheets are rolled around a high quality colored lead. No mulching or mixing with toxic chemical is required. A special adhesive formula is used to bind the newsprint together into a cohesive trunk -- as hard as wood.

This set of colored mini pencils requires approximately one broadsheet of recycled newspaper.

After drying, the pencils are smothed to a consistent round barrel. Newsprint images are still visible on the sharpened tip, and on the barel of the black pencil.

Over time, natural oils from your hand will tend to highlight the interesting newsprint.

The pencil barrel is made in China out of an English edition newspaper.

Sharpens easily -- just like wood -- with regular pencil sharpener.

Tip to top, beginning to end, pencil lead to eraser, the TreeSmart Newspaper pencil is a product everyone can use and reuse and feel very good about it.
