American Sanford NOBLOT Indelible Ink Pencil 705 - Sanford

Notice: Sanford has discontinued producing the NOBLOT pencil (in fact, all wood cased pencils). We have only a few on hand and cannot obtain more from Sanford or its distributors. If your cart refuses to accept the total number of pencils you want, it is because we are out of stock. Sorry! This was a very useful pencil.

Called "A Bottle of Ink in a Pencil" its marking cannot be completely erased. Even if vigorously "erased" a very legible and visible blue writing remains. The remaining writing looks similar to a medium-blue color pencil line, but is actually an indelible blue ink pencil.

Commercial artists use it to outline old letters and designs, over which they paint background colors. Because the lead is soluble, the pencil markings bleed through for a precise line to follow.

Since indelible leads react with moisture, it is best to store indelible pencils in a dry place (e.g., Zip-Lock bag) so that the leads do not absorb moisure, causing them to become soft and to wear more quickly.

A subjective impression: I find the Veritas Indelible purple pencil to write darker than the Noblot -- like a 2B regular graphite lead. The Noblot writes like an HB lead. After erasure, the Veritas leaves a distinctive purple impression, whereas the Noblot's impression is blue-green. The Veritas red lead leaves a pink impression. All smear with a wet finger. All write much more boldly on a slightly damp surface, and all leave a mark with more contrast after erasure if the surface is slightly damp when first written upon. Don
