The internal diameter of this thumb-operated clip is .285+/-.005 inches. It fits all US-manufactured standard #2 round diameter pencils. You may have to squeeze in the clip a little to firmly grip some of the newer 1/64" smaller diameter pencils coming from overseas (e.g., Papermate Sanford, Dixon). This may be more necessary on a hexagonal pencil than a round one because the hexagonal pencil has many fewer contact points with the clip. It also will fit snugly on the metal eraser ferrule.

Because it opens with thumb pressure and clamps down fairly snugly when released, you can clip your Faultless Pencil Clip equipped pencil to about anything up to about 1/16" thick. You can clip it to your shirt pocket without damaging the fabric.

We had one customer call saying her husband had been carefully guarding his three remaining Faultless Pencil Clips for almost 15 years because he could not find a replacement and did not want to buy a cheap import. We sell the imported clip he is talking about. It is not "cheap", implying poorly made. It is less expensive, less durable and serves a less particular user. But I agree that the Faultless Clip has no peer in durability and looks. The Faultless pencil clip is made of high-carbon "spring steel," is heat-treated, well honed and burnished, and is finished with a jewel-like nickel coating.
