Quite often one finds themselves missing their favorite writing implement - whether it was left somewhere, fell out of a pocket, or lent to someone. In 1907, Victor Ochoa invented the first pencil clip, and since then pen and pencils have survived due to their use. Today there are plastic and metal clips that come standard, but in many cases you want more security.
